Timothy Strathmann holds B.S. (1995) and M.S. (1996) degrees in civil engineering from Purdue University, and a Ph.D. (2001) in environmental chemistry and engineering from Johns Hopkins University. From 2001 to 2003, Dr. Strathmann was a post-doctoral research associate in the department of Geosciences at Princeton University. He joined the faculty of the department of Civil and Environmental Engineering in 2003.

Dr. Strathmann teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in environmental chemistry and engineering.

Dr. Strathmann’s research explores the interplay between metals and organic compounds in aquatic systems, and assesses the roles that metal-organic interactions play in natural biogeochemical processes, contaminant fate and transport, and engineered treatment systems. Experimental research in his group’s laboratory combines wet chemical methods (e.g., kinetic, equilibrium studies) with modern spectroscopy (e.g., EXAFS, ATR-FTIR) and microscopy (e.g., AFM) techniques.

Dr. Strathmann is a member of the American Chemical Society (environmental chemistry, geochemistry, and agrochemicals division member), the Geochemical Society, the Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry, the Association of Environmental Engineering and Science Professors, and the International XAFS Society.
