CEE Research Laboratories The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) has a broad range of facilities. The Newmark Civil Engineering Laboratory (NCEL) was dedicated in 1967 and subsequently has been modified and updated several times. NCEL is equipped with a comprehensive machine shop that is capable of fabricating nearly any item required by faculty who are conducting research.
	Hydrosystems Laboratory (HSL)
	Hydrosystems Laboratory (HSL) is located across the street from NCEL. Both laboratories have large crane bays and specialized equipment to accommodate the research testing and experimentation

	Environmental Engineering and Science Laboratories
	The Environmental Engineering and Science laboratories are located on the fourth floor of the Newmark Civil Engineering Lab. A $3.3 Million comprehensive renovation of these diverse laboratories was completed in 1997.

	Advanced Transportation Research and Engineering Laboratory
	The Advanced Transportation Research and Engineering Laboratory (ATREL), located in Rantoul, Illinois (15 miles from the UIUC campus) has three laboratories plus high bay areas which provide considerable space for large-scale testing and research. ATREL's surrounding acreage provides an expansive area for research on full-scale pavement and rail systems under controlled experimental conditions. 	Newmark Structural Engineering Laboratory
	The Structural Research Laboratory of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Illinois has a long history of excellence in large-scale experimental structural research. Over the years has contributed greatly to the state-of-the-art in civil engineering.
