The M.S. degree in Civil Engineering (non-thesis option) can be obtained completely online. Blended approaches, involving a combination of courses taken on campus and online, are also possible (contact the Coordinator of Online Programs to discuss this option). M.S. students have five years to complete the program.
Admissions and course requirements for the M.S. degree in Civil Engineering are administered through the program areas in our department. Currently, we offer the following concentrations online:
Consult the Graduate Handbook, page 11, to review the curriculum requirements of the M.S. program. Our M.S. program allows the student flexibility to supplement the required coursework in their chosen program area (for online students Construction Management, Infrastructure, or Transportation) with courses in any of the seven CEE program areas. For example, a student entering the online program through the Transportation area could develop a program plan consisting of four Transportation courses (two at the 400-level and two at the 500-level), one other 500-level course in any of the seven CEE areas, and four additional courses at either the 400- or 500-level in any of the seven CEE areas.
The full listing of courses available in the online program includes courses offered annually and courses offered every 2 or 3 years. Be sure to check back for updates as courses may be added!
The Certificate Program allows students to receive a certificate in a specialized area within civil and environmental engineering. Each certificate requires students to complete three or four courses, earning a B- or higher in each course. The following certificates are available.
- Construction Management
- Railroad Engineering
- Transportation Engineering
- Pavement Engineering
