Deborah L. Thurston,
Professor of General Engineering,
of Civil Engineering, and of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering.
Dr. Thurston's research involves developing and applying mathematical models
for product and manufacturing process design which internalize environmental
impacts into the design engineer's analytic framework. The focus is on tradeoffs
between pollution, product cost and manufacturing quality. Recent applications
include manufacturing process analysis to prevent the formation of hazardous
air pollutants, and consideration of recycling in automotive material selection.
Professor Thurston teaches GE 288, GE 289, GE 242 and GE 444. Her e-mail
address is thurston@uiuc.edu.
