Guest, Stillwell receive College of Engineering faculty awards

Faculty awards from the College of Engineering have been awarded to assistant professors Jeremy Guest and Ashlynn Stillwell.

Guest has received one of the 2018 Dean’s Awards for Excellence in Research. This award is presented annually to assistant professors and associate professors who have been judged by their colleagues to have conducted the best research during the previous academic year or years.

Guest has been on the CEE at Illinois faculty since 2011. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from Bucknell University (2005), master’s degree in Civil Engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (2007) and doctorate in Environmental Engineering from University of Michigan (2012). Guest’s research focuses on the development of technologies for sustainable water and sanitation, with a focus on resource recovery from bodily excreta in technologically advanced and developing communities. He has received many teaching and research honors, and appears regularly on the List of Teachers Ranked as Excellent by their Students.

Stillwell has been named as a recipient of the 2018 Rose Award for Teaching Excellence. The award is given for achieving excellence in undergraduate teaching in the College of Engineering and especially recognizes innovative teaching methods and instructional programs which motivate freshman and sophomore students to learn and appreciate engineering.

Stillwell joined the CEE at Illinois faculty in 2013, where she teaches courses in water technology and policy, water resources engineering, and stochastic hydrology. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Missouri-Columbia (2006), master’s degrees in Environmental and Water Resources Engineering and Public Affairs from The University of Texas at Austin (both in 2010), and a doctorate in Civil Engineering from The University of Texas at Austin (2013). Earlier this year, Stillwell received the Amy L. Devine Award for contributions to the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, engineering students and the engineering profession. She was also recently named to the List of Teachers Ranked as Excellent by Their Students.

The College of Engineering will be honoring Guest, Stillwell and other awardees at the National Center for Supercomputing Applications auditorium on Monday, April 23, 2018, with a reception following.
