The 100th Illinois Transportation and Highway Engineering conference (THE) will take place on campus March 25-26 with pre-conference activities, including short courses, offered on March 24. To celebrate this milestone, various University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign institutions will be utilized including Foellinger Auditorium, Lincoln Hall and the historic Illini Union Building. Special events will also include a fish fry Monday night, food and exhibits in the Illini Union and live music, food and drinks on Tuesday evening.

The conference got its start when the civil engineering department at Illinois hosted the first Short Course in Highway Engineering in 1914 for the newly appointed County Superintendents of Highways across the state. Events included a welcome address by the University president, a presentation on the Panama Canal by department head Ira O. Baker, and presentations regarding road improvement in Illinois. Each year since, hundreds of transportation engineers, officials, technicians, faculty and students have gathered to discuss issues critical to the safe and economical movement of people and goods across Illinois, the nation and beyond.
