Seismic Assessment of Skew RC Bridges using Scaled Piers
Principal Investigators: Prof. Amr S. Elnashai and Prof. B. F. Spencer, Jr.
Research Assistant: Narutoshi Nakata
The goal of this study was to understand the behavior of skew RC bridges using the hybrid simulation technique. In the experiment, a small-scaled reinforced concrete pier was used to simulate the full scale bridge pier with similitude consideration. The materials used for the scaled pier were micro-concrete, heat-treated threaded rods, and annealed wire. The load and boundary condition box (LBCB) was used to impose different types of loading to the specimen, such as axial, shear, flexure and torsion.
