Tami Bond's research group works on the interface between energy consumption and global atmospheric chemistry. While global change will be attributable to greenhouse gases in the long term (centuries), a multitude of short-lived emissions with lifetimes of a few days affect the atmosphere and climate now. Changes in energy consumption will alter the global profile of emissions.

Students are about equally divided between measurements and modeling. Our main analytical focus has been understanding physical, chemical and optical properties of carbonaceous particles. We develop global emission inventories (including the past and the future) and run atmospheric models to determine how emissions affect Earth's energy balance.
