Mr. Sehgal’s career is marked by rapid advancement, leadership in rail systems and a commitment to engineering excellence and sustainability. He has consistently delivered outstanding results at Arup and TY Lin, exceeding goals and consistently performing at a level that stands out from the team. His demonstrated expertise of trackwork skills significantly contributes to project success. Mr. Sehgal is dedicated to UIUC and AREMA, and he actively engages with student chapters, mentoring and workshops. He is a rare gem in the field of civil engineering, embodying the spirit of relentless pursuit of excellence.

Biography

Luv Sehgal is Senior Engineer with a rich and diverse background in both the design and construction phases of rail and transit projects. Holding a coveted bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the esteemed NIT Hamirpur in India, Luv embarked on his professional journey in the United States where he came as an immigrant. Here, he pursued his Masters at UofI, specializing in transportation engineering. During his tenure at UIUC, Luv contributed significantly to the field through his authored research papers and industrial case studies, which he presented at prestigious conferences including AREMA, TRB, IPWE, and WRI. His research endeavors primarily revolve around sustainable track design, high-speed rail infrastructure, and the resilience of transit systems. Notably, Luv recently  delivered a keynote speech at the AREMA conference and Railway Interchange in Indianapolis in 2023 on the topic of alternative and sustainable fuels for trains.
 
Currently based in Toronto, Luv is an integral part of the Arup team working as Sr Engineer. Throughout his career, Luv has been involved in diverse infrastructure projects across New York, Boston, and Toronto, collaborating on initiatives for TTC, MTA, Metrolinx, MBTA, Amtrak, and others in various capacities such as Designer, PM/CM, Technical Advisor, and Owner's Representative. Previously he was with TY Lin International in Toronto. Back in India he has worked with a Ministry of Water Resources Undertaking and Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. 
 
His contributions to major projects like the Green Line extension in Boston, Third track capacity expansion of LIRR in NY, and ongoing Eglinton Crosstown West Extension in Toronto underscore his proficiency in driving projects to successful completion, often exceeding expectations in terms of deadlines and budgets. Luv’s leadership style fosters a culture of creativity and mutual respect, enabling multidisciplinary teams to thrive. With a keen eye for detail, focus on UN-SDGs and a passion for leveraging innovative technologies, Luv consistently adds value to every project he undertakes. His commitment to innovation, coupled with a focus on sustainability and technical excellence, underscores his dedication to delivering public transportation solutions that not only spur economic growth but also promote social equity and inclusion.
